TERSE IMRAN ARIF BLASTS SAUDI ARABIA INTO THE SERIES LEAD

  • Match Details;

  • Game reduced to 7 overs due to afternoon rain

  • Captain Muhammad Afzal wins toss and elects to field.

Uganda 52/4 in 7 overs (Zephaniah Katungyi 25(19), Muhammad Afzal 2/8 in 2 overs) lost to Saudi Arabia 54/3 in 5.3 overs by 7 wickets (Imran Arif 27(14), Jonathan Ssebanja 2/14 in 2 overs) by 7 wickets

On a wet afternoon at the Kyambogo Oval a lot of the players were eager to get on with it but the rains had to have their say on the game, the token downpour noted and done, Muhammad Afzal won the toss and elected to field.

The Chairman’s Select opening batsmen Zephaniah Katungyi 25(19) and Falak Sher 4(5) were guilty of failing to rotate strike early allowing Abu Huraira and Imran Arif to settle into good rhythm in the short but tense opening stages.

Asexpected, overs flew by and every delivery was a pressure situation from then on. Rogers Olipa 11(9) then then stepped up after the fall of Falak to drive Huraira running in for his second over elegantly through covers and bludgeon Usman Ali past mid-off for another much needed boundary.

Uganda closed the innings on 52 off their alloted 7 over and the run chase began with the conventional intent displayed by a team needing 53 off 54 balls; Moazam Shaukat 15(7) opening the Saudi Arabia act swatting one for four to deep mid-wicket and threading two more at the end of the over past extra cover and point.

The day however went to Imran Arif 27(14) who finished the match at a strike rate of 192.86 his only two boundaries coming off the penultimate over to close out the game.

After some sharp work in the second over from short fine leg by Wabwire to run out opener Inayat Saeed; Shaukat and Imran Sajid 10(10) put on 23 for the second wicket to set up the grand finish for Arif who never once allowed the bowling to settle picking any run available from the field to hunt down the target with two huge sixes off left arm spinner Falak Sher in the sixth over.
